Dragon RS is celebrating its 20th anniversary while expanding its Tredegar, South Wales facility and investing further in technology, training provision and local employment.During a recent visit to the company's meter refurbishment and battery recycling operation by EUA Utility Networks Metering Manager, Martin Bell, the scale of its current activity and future ambitions were on clear display.Dragon RS Managing Director Beth Bysouth and the Dragon RS team highlighted the progress already under way across the site, as well as expansion plans designed to support the company's long-term future. The business's confidence is reflected not only in its operational growth, but also in its continued commitment to building a resilient and capable workforce.Twenty years of successful trading represents a significant milestone for the business. Over that time, Dragon RS has developed a reputation for technical expertise, operational excellence and strong compliance standards, supporting energy suppliers, manufacturers and meter asset providers across the United Kingdom.

People and community  That commitment was visible across the organisation. Dragon RS continues to invest in local people through training and internal development, with staff progression evident from the shop floor to senior leadership.The company also plays an active role in the local community, including support for the local football and rugby clubs along with community events such as food banks and Christmas gift appeals. April, who previously worked at Dragon RS while developing her photography career after graduating from university, has since gone on to secure full-time employment as a professional photographer, reflecting another example of local talent connected with the site.Innovation and tracking

Innovation and tracking Innovation is also central to the company's offer. Project Manager Geraint Jones demonstrated Dragon RS's in-house IT application, Mi Smart Tech, together with a camera-reading and conveyor-based tracking system that monitors every stage of a device's lifecycle.From incoming registration through refurbishment or recycling to final return, the bespoke system, which Dragon RS also makes commercially available to other organisations, gives the business full visibility of each item and supports the processing of hundreds of thousands of devices every month.

Technical capability  The visit also highlighted the depth of experience across the business. Utility industry specialist Jim Nield brings more than 46 years of sector knowledge, providing valuable expertise across metering operations and industry best practice.Ability to recognise and re-use the best existing equipment as well as future technology remains one of Dragon RS's standout strengths.Among the most striking examples are fully operational meter calibration rigs that are more than 100 years old, which continue to perform a vital role in testing larger non-domestic gas meters. Alongside these legacy assets, the company also operates extensive domestic gas and electricity testing equipment, underlining a practical approach that combines technical reuse with modern operational efficiency.Dragon RS is also the only company in the UK approved to undertake both Gas and Electricity In-Service Testing and is the only company actively progressing Use Case 4 (UC004), providing unique capabilities within the metering sector. These specialist operations are managed under the watchful eyes of Jim, Martin Price and Mohammed Fayed, whose extensive technical knowledge helps ensure the highest standards of accuracy, quality and compliance are maintained.

Training and compliance  Training is another major focus. Dragon RS operates its own on-site training facility, where Operations Manager, Lee Davies, helps develop staff capability in specialist areas including asbestos and battery handling.Supporting these activities is a dedicated compliance team headed by Tracy Medlicott, Compliance Director, ensuring regulatory requirements and customer expectations remain central to operations.The company has also invested heavily in transport and safety compliance. Emma Evans serves as Dragon RS's qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) and Transport Manager and is responsible for the company's Operator's Licence, helping ensure the safe and compliant movement of metering assets and associated materials throughout the supply chain.Dragon RS continues to achieve consistently high scores in external audits including those held under UC004 certification for Triage Facility Assurance since February 2025, further strengthening its compliance credentials on behalf of customers.

Expansion and future growth  Further growth is already in motion. Under the leadership of Operations Director, Gerard Howard, Dragon RS has secured an additional 58,000 sq. ft. facility opposite its existing 46,000 sq. ft. plant, creating significant extra storage capacity and supporting the company's long-term growth ambitions.This expansion will enable the business to hold both new and recycled meters in the UK, supporting faster supply for manufacturers, meter asset providers and energy suppliers while reducing dependence on overseas shipping lead times.The visit by Martin Bell also highlighted the depth of expertise across the organisation, with contributions from Beth Bysouth, Gerard Howard, Emma Evans, Lee Davies, Geraint Jones, Martin Price and Jim Nield. Their combined knowledge reflects a strong commitment to operational excellence, technical capability and continuous improvement that has underpinned Dragon RS's first 20 years and continues to support its ambitions for the future.
