Skewb drives major digital breakthrough as Cadent unveils new network Control Room
Skewb has delivered a major step forward for the UK gas sector with the rollout of Cadent’s new digital Control Room - a cutting‑edge operational hub giving teams near real‑time visibility of network performance and day‑to‑day programme delivery.
Designed, engineered and delivered by Skewb, in collaboration with Cadent, the platform is one of the most advanced operational oversight systems now in use across the industry.
Launched at Cadent’s state‑of‑the‑art Slough office, the Control Room is already transforming how the UK’s largest gas distribution network plans and delivers its Mains Replacement Programme.
The Skewb‑built system helps teams manage the transition from ageing metallic pipelines to modern plastic infrastructure with greater accuracy and control - reducing risk, supporting right‑first‑time delivery, and ultimately strengthening reliability for millions of customers.
At the heart of the Control Room is Skewb’s digital platform, which brings all key information together into one easy‑to‑use view - from data and alerts to performance updates and risk signals. With everything in one place, teams can work more collaboratively, spot issues earlier and make faster, better-informed decisions.
By replacing manual processes with automated early warning, real‑time monitoring and structured risk‑management workflows, Skewb’s solution enhances Cadent’s ability to identify potential issues before they affect customers and key stakeholders. The result: quicker interventions, safer delivery and stronger network performance.
Nic Evans, Director of Gas Transition & Future at Skewb, said:
“Control Room is a Skewb product which integrates lots of different systems and allows us to get near real time insight of everything going on within the Mains Replacement Programme in London daily.
“This Control Room is a huge step forward - both for how Cadent operates today and how the gas industry will need to operate tomorrow. It boosts situational awareness, supports faster decisions and gives teams the tools to meet customers’ current and future needs.”
This launch is the first phase of a wider transformation programme Skewb continues to support across Cadent’s networks.
As the UK energy landscape evolves, the platform will strengthen resilience, improve operational control and position Cadent at the forefront of digital innovation in regulated infrastructure.
The new system enables teams to work more proactively and efficiently and takes away the manual data processing side.
Jessica Allen, Head of Connected Workplace at Cadent, said:
“The Control Room brings together the right environment, the right technology and the right people to drive near real‑time operational performance.”
She added: "The partnership with Skewb has been incredibly powerful - the Control Room shows what’s possible when we align on purpose and strategic vision.”
For Skewb, the launch is a milestone achievement - demonstrating the company’s growing role as a strategic digital partner modernising the UK’s utility sector and shaping the future of how critical infrastructure is operated.
